ASM Horwath was established in July 1995, by Norman Adams, Stephen Sproule and Michael McAllister. The newly founded firm, originally called ASM Chartered Accountants, quickly established itself as a "high quality" provider of professional services within the Belfast area.
In November 1995, the firm became the Northern Ireland representative for Horwath International, a network of independent accounting and management consulting firms with over 400 offices in 372 cities around the world. This association enabled the firm to establish working relationships and practices with Horwath Bastow Charleton, our Dublin based associate and Horwath Clark Whitehill, our associate in Great Britain.
Other milestone dates in the development and expansion of ASM Horwath include:
February 1996:ASM Horwath opened its second office in Magherafelt;
August 1998: the firm acquired Company Broking Consultants Limited, the market leader in Ireland in business broking - the matching of business vendors and purchasers;

In December 2000, the firm's financial services business was restructured into a separate limited company - ASM Horwath Financial Consultants Limited - a company authorised by the FSA to conduct investment business.
August 2005: the firm acquired the Dungannon based practice of R J Sutton & Company, a well known firm in the area.
September 2005: ASM Horwath and Horwath Bastow Charleton launch a joint venture called Horwath Consulting Ireland Limited to provide consultancy services to public sector organisations in Ireland.

September 2009:O'Hare Finnegan Ltd with offices in Newry, Dundalk and Dublin join the ASM Horwath group. O'Hare Finnegan was established in 1992. The firm has two partners, Michael O'Hare and Ian Finnegan and over 25 professional staff. O'Hare Finnegan specialises in the provision of business advisory services to mainly owner managed businesses in the Newry to Dublin corridor.
Since its establishment in July 1995, the number of staff in the firm has grown to approximately 100. The firm is now one of the largest professional accounting and management consultancy firms in Northern Ireland, with a local presence exceeding a number of the "Big 4" accountancy practices.
